(Sackets Harbor) – The Kellie Greene for Congress campaign issued the following statement regarding the cancellation of the candidate debate that was scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd:

“This afternoon, my campaign received an email from the Jefferson County Young Republicans notifying me that my opponent, Matt Doheny, had decided to pull out of a debate scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd. This came after several days of hard work by the YR’s to secure a venue and engage the participation of several local journalists. These debate arrangements included several communications with a representative of my campaign and the Doheny campaign.

It goes without say that we are extremely disappointed that Matt Doheny has decided to dodge this important event. Mr. Doheny led on my campaign. He led on the Jefferson County Republicans. He led on several respected journalists. But most disturbingly, he let down the citizens of New York’s 21st Congressional District.

Let’s hope this is the last and only time Mr. Doheny takes to dodge and deny the people of this district a discussion on the important issues. The voters of NY-21 deserve to see their candidates debate before Election Day but sadly Doheny’s latest action speaks volumes as to what type of politician he really is.”
